.hiv
The .hiv domain extension was the first of its kind, established with a social cause in mind, i.e., HIV/AIDS awareness and fundraising. It was introduced in 2014 by dotHIV, a social enterprise from Berlin. Businesses and individuals that use this domain extension contribute a part of their purchasing and renewal fees to HIV/AIDS-related projects. However, due to insufficient demand, the domain name was sold to Uniregistry in 2016. The projects aiming to raise funds and awareness about HIV/AIDS are now carried on through the online platform, click4life.hiv.
